Communication
Equipment used is VHF Vehicle mounted and hand held radio transmitters for long range. UHF hand held used for short range and clarity. We will have a minimum of three to four 4WD to provide logistic support and each vehicle has a radio transmitter.
Once a day, vehicle mounted VHF units will communicate thru repeater station to base in Kuala Lumpur city to state safe conditions at camp and to relay any serious messages. These units are on 24 hours and are able to communicate to civilization at any time or vise versa.
Excursions from base camp will carry hand radio transmitters and will communicate with base every 2 hours to maintain good clear line of communication.
Note: VHF “repeater” communication are for emergencies and periodic radio checks only, they cannot be used for normal personal or commercial communication. For normal conversations we have to go into “simplex” mode (which means it covers about 20 km only).
First Aid
A first aid main box is maintained at base camp in our lead Landrover. This box is equipped to handle cuts, abrasions, minor burns, minor insect bites and several survival equipment.
Excursions will carry a smaller first aid box.
Note that serious injuries will be attended to but we will not take the responsibility to administer drugs or complex medications. Serious injuries will be transported by 4WD to the nearest clinic which is a government hospital 30km away (1.5 hours traveling time at moderate speed).
Excursion from base camp
The excursion from base camp is approximately 5 to 8 km. If in cases of severe injuries whilst on excursion and a 4WD is not accessible. The ATV will transfer the injured person to base camp or in conditions that this mode is not appropriate, we will stretcher the person to base camp. The location where we are situated is hilly, if there is a possible landing area a chopper can be radioed in for evacuation. Charges for air-lifts are charged to the client or clients insurance.
4WD Logistic Support
Our logistic vehicles are well equipped machines to handle the very harsh off-road terrain in Malaysia. They are equipped with radio transmitters, winches, front, rear and sidebars and are all lifted to accommodate the 35in Mud terrain digger tires. Each are also self sufficient with full recovery equipment like snatch straps, high lift jacks, chain saw, shovels, pulleys, chains etc etc.
Our vehicles are well equipped to handle and recover from very harsh terrains and our crew are well experienced in the unpredictable rainforest conditions.
Food and Beverage
All food and beverage are brought in from the city. We do not use the water from the jungle for consumption.
Evacuation
Depending on which camp-site we are situated, our common practice is to evacuated by 4WD (when possible). In circumstances where 4WD is not possible, we will radio in for air lift assistance from the forestry department. Upon each program in the jungle, we will lodge a report of the participants and program itinerary to the forestry department and local police station. Upon departure, another notice will advice the authorities on the conditions of how we left.
Fire / Flooding
During the entire program, our staff takes turns in being the Safety Manager On Duty. Upon any emergency he/she will sound the alarm and all participants will gather at the hall for further briefing. |
